Diabetes UK – Spring 2022 Beneficiary

Dr Emma Vincent

This Fellowship highlights our commitment to investing in the future leaders of diabetes research. Dr Vincent's research is key to understanding what changes happen in the body when type 2 diabetes develops, which may encourage certain types of cancers to grow. By knowing those changes, we can find ways to prevent cancers in people with type 2 diabetes.

Along with the specific aims of this project, Dr Vincent has forged important collaborations during her Fellowship, leading to a wealth of complementary research. This includes investigating the impact of type 2 diabetes drugs on cancer and immune cells, and important discoveries showing early signs of type 2 diabetes risk can be detected in our metabolism decades before a diagnosis.

Her research continues to demonstrate a clear line of sight to improving the lives of people with or at risk of type 2 diabetes, and we look forward to following Dr Vincent’s further progress as she enter the final year of her Fellowship and establishes herself as a leader in her field.
